Top 10 Radio Stations for Lorry Drivers

If you’re a lorry driver, you’re probably well aware of the importance of good radio. But are you aware of all these trucker favourites? Read on for our rundown of the top 10 UK radio stations for lorry drivers.

Absolute Radio

Absolute isn’t just one radio station, but a whole range. They have stations for the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, as well as the present day. If you have a favourite decade, this is for you – all the best songs with very few repeats.

Talksport

If you’re more into sports than music, you can follow live matches here and get just as thrilling an experience as watching them on TV, plus debates on sport around the clock. The Breakfast Show with Alan Brizil is a favourite and makes a great start to your morning drive.

BBC Radio 5 Live

This station gives you the latest news and some of the best sports coverage outside Talksport. They also take phone-in calls from listeners, which makes for an entertaining drive when debates get out of hand. And if you’re into politics, they also broadcast Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday with an in-depth analysis.

Kisstory

If the words “big fish, little fish, cardboard box” take you right back, you’ll love the 80s, 90s and 00s clubbing anthems and old-skool hip-hop on Kisstory. With artists like Sean Paul, Craig David and Tinie Tempah, their upbeat tracks will keep you motivated while driving and give you plenty of variety.

Magic

If you’d like some slightly more chill oldies, Magic offers relaxed classics and power ballads, with icons like Tina Turner and Phil Collins mixing with more modern favourites like Adele and Gabrielle Aplin and songs from the current charts.

Radio X

You might know this one by its previous name, XFM. This is your one-stop shop for alternative and indie rock, with a tradition of celebrity hosts that’s included Ricky Gervais, Simon Pegg and Russell Brand.

Heart

Heart is one of the UK’s most popular stations. As well as old and new hits, it offers lots of competitions, with the chance to win big money prizes.

Radio 2

Britain’s first 24-hour radio station, BBC Radio 2 has featured iconic presenters like Paul O’Grady, Chris Evans and Graham Norton. Music tends to be soft rock, with artists like James Blunt, Amy Winehouse, Kelly Clarkson and Pink.

Capital

Capital plays back-to-back chart hits and broadcasts the Jingle Bell Ball every December. Not the best for truckers who get frustrated by hearing repeats, but the ideal place to get your chart fix.

LBC

LBC (short for Leading Britain’s Conversation) is a talk radio station with lively phone-ins. The 4-7am breakfast show is a great way to “read” the newspapers while in the cab. It’s also the world’s first radio station to offer full-length podcasts, as well as news, politics and ethical debates.
